YOGA WITH CLAIRE: JUICY HIP OPENING


It’s time for some juicy hip-opening yoga!

I naturally have tight hips. Over the 6+ years of yoga they have definitely opened up alot, but they can still feel quite locked up at times. So, I love nothing more than a sequence that is going to get right in deep and release some of that tension.

Not to mention all the emotional gunk stored in my hips. I’m not sure who first came up with that idea in the yogi lineage, but it’s true. Within the Ashtanga Yoga Primary sequence there is a posture called Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose). For a good 6 months each morning as the teacher adjusted me in this pose I would end up with tears streaming down my face and this incredibly overwhelming feeling – like a head rush almost but wrapped in vulnerability. I felt exposed, raw, sad, relieved. My experience is that YES, our hips hold alot of past pain, trauma, sadness, tension, worry.

I hope you enjoy this sequence as much I did making it for you. It’s an 8.5 minute sequence, but as I mention in the video please hold poses for longer if you need to. Make this practice your own juicy hip opening experience.

  2. Thanks Claire! Did this today – I've had tight hips for ages now and been going deeper back into my yoga practice to help with that as well as regenerating flexibility and feel good strength. After a lot of work recently, I finally feel them really loosen up significantly after your video. There was tension that just wouldn't go, and well now it has! Seems short and simple but somehpw the asanas here got right to the point. I feel relieved. Thank you so much! Saha x
